Inzwischen greifen sie aus der Dunkelzone, einem Ring kosmischer Trümmer, der die Welt umgibt und in eine Nord- und eine Südhälfte teilt, an und beeinflussen bereits weite Teile der nördlichen Länder und deren Bewohner.
Das gilt besonders für die Caer, ein Kriegsvolk, das, von Dämonenpriestern angeführt, einen Eroberungsfeldzug beginnt und seine Nachbarn mit Feuer und Schwert heimsucht.
Im Verhältnis zu den Horden der Caer ist die Zahl derer, die auf Seiten der Lichtwelt gegen die Mächte des Dunkels kämpfen, erschreckend gering. Eigentlich ist es nur ein Häuflein Tapferer und Unverzagter, das angeführt wird von Mythor, den man den Sohn des Kometen nennt.
