Schon im dänischen Exil, wohin sie bereits 1933 zusammen mit ihrer Tochter Judith emigrierte, schrieb Lazar an ihrem Hauptwerk, dem großen Zeitroman "Die Eingeborenen von Maria Blut", den sie bereits 1937 in Auszügen in der bekannten Moskauer Exilzeitschrift ,Das Wort’ veröffentlichen konnte. Der Roman spielt im fiktiven Städtchen Maria Blut und schildert auf psychologisch höchst einfühlsame Weise das Heranreifen des Nazismus in Österreich. Vergeblich hat sie es österreichischen wie Schweizer Verlagen angeboten; keiner wollte es drucken. Ein Schweizer Verleger schrieb ihr einen begeisterten Brief darüber, doch könne er die Herausgabe nicht riskieren, schon aus dem Grunde, „weil der ,Markt’ dafür zu eng geworden wäre“. Mit einem umfassenden Nachwort von Prof. Dr. Sonnleitner von der Universität Wien versehen, ist der lange vergessene Widerstandsroman jetzt endlich in einer neuen Edition zu entdecken.

Nun kommt der Roman erstmals in Österreich heraus, auf eine ähnliche Stimmungs-Melange treffend.“
