Führungskräfte haben als vordergründiges Ziel die Steigerung des Unternehmenswertes. Über die Frage was der Unternehmenswert ist, wie er sich bemisst und wie er gesteuert werden kann herrscht jedoch Uneinigkeit. Der Vorstand der Siemens AG hat das Hauptziel: Steigerung des Unternehmenswertes. Die Berechnung erfolgt nach dem Geschäftswertbeitrag (GWB), der sich aus dem operativen Ergebnis vermindert um die Kapitalkosten ermittelt. Auch E.ON ermittelt auf diese Weise die Wertsteigerung, zieht aber zusätzlich den Return on Capital employed (ROCE) als Zielgröße heran. Die Wienerberger Ziegelindustrie GmbH stützt sich bei der Wertschaffung und Steuerung auf die Kennzahlen Cash Flow Return on Investment (CFROI) und Cash Value Added (CVA). Sie richtet sich also nicht nach den klassischen Gewinnkennzahlen, sondern nach Cash Flow Größen. Diese Arbeit soll den Shareholder Value Ansatz nach Alfred Rappaport darstellen, die Vorteile verdeutlichen und kritische Aspekte aufzeigen. Dem Verfasser erscheint die folgende Vor-gehensweise sinnvoll: Zunächst werden Schwächen der klassischen buchhalterischen Instrumente aufgeführt. An diesen Schwächen knüpft der Shareholder Value Ansatz in Kapitel 2 an. Ausgehend vom Grundgedanken werden Ermittlungsmöglichkeiten dargestellt, die als Grundlage für Managemententscheidungen genutzt werden können. Die Fallstudie in Kapitel 3 stellt die Ansätze des Wertsteigerungskonzeptes der GEA Group AG (GEA) dar und soll als Praxisbeispiel für wertorientiertes Management dienen. Das letzte und 4. Kapitel zeigt kritische Aspekte des theoretischen Ansatzes auf und enthält das Resümee. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wird keine Wertung der Anwendung des Shareholder Value Ansatzes der GEA geübt. Der Verfasser ist der Ansicht, dass die formalen Restriktionen dieser Arbeit der Komplexität des Themas nicht angemessen sind.
