Oktober 2006 schrieb Ludger Lütkehaus in der ZEIT, Hannah Arendt nähme in ihrer Moralphilosophie „zu jenen epochalen Gestalten der Philosophie-geschichte Zuflucht, von denen sie sich am ehesten Auskunft über die Verbind-lichkeit eines nichtbösen Handelns erhofft: zu Sokrates und zu Kant, dazu überra-schend häufig zu Nietzsche [...]“.
Eine Überraschung, die vermutlich stellvertretend für die deutsche Arendtfor-schung stehen kann, denn tatsächlich existieren kaum deutschsprachige Untersu-chungen zur eigentlich offensichtlichen Nietzscherezeption Hanna Arendts. So konnte Professor Lütkehaus auf meine Nachfrage hin lediglich auf die „Vorlesung über das Böse“ verweisen. Sekundärliteratur zu diesem Thema sei ihm gänzlich unbekannt.
Immerhin haben sich einige Amerikaner – zumeist in Form schwer zugänglicher Dissertationen – der Gemeinsamkeiten von Nietzsches politischen Ansätzen und Arendts Philosophie angenommen. Gänzlich brach liegt dieses Feld also nicht, doch ist es noch so unbestellt, daß weitere und umfangreichere Untersuchungen, als es der Rahmen dieser Arbeit gestattet, durchaus fruchtbar sein dürften.

Daß sich eine genauere Betrachtung dieses Themas lohnt, beweist allein schon ein Blick in den Index der Bücher Arendts. In der bereist erwähnten „Vorlesung über das Böse“ wird außer Sokrates kein Name so häufig erwähnt wie der Nietzsches. Auch in ihrem zweibändigen Werk „Vom Leben des Geistes“, vor allem im zweiten Band über „Das Wollen“, gehört Nietzsche zu den meistzitierten Philoso-phen.
Es gilt zu klären, warum Arendt, die sich immer wieder die Frage stellte, wie das Böse in Form der Shoa, etwas „das niemals hätte geschehen dürfen“ , zu erklären sei, ausgerechnet beim wohl radikalsten Kritiker der traditionellen Moral Ant-worten suchte – und auch fand. Mehr noch, Nietzsches Kritik bot ihr nicht nur eine Grundlage für die Analyse, sondern auch Anregungen für ihren Versuch, ein neues Fundament für moralisches Handeln zu finden. Davon ausgehend nahm die Philosophie Nietzsches Einfluß auf die politische Theorie Hannah Arendts.
Ziel dieser Arbeit kann es nicht sein, das Versäumnis der deutschen Arendtfor-schung auf einen Schlag nachzuholen. Sie kann lediglich ein Schlaglicht werfen auf einen kaum beachteten Aspekt der Philosophie der bedeutendsten Philosophin des 20. Jahrhunderts. [...]
